I need some guidance as far as electric motors go for my high school Senior R&D project. I'm working on motorizing a wheelchair, but it's kind of hard to explain. Anyways, what I need is advice on which electric motor to use. Perhaps there is a pre-existing wheelchair motor that I can buy separately? Or am I better off finding a motor and making it fit my project? My requirements for this motor are that it must be able to move 250 lbs at 3-4 mph on 24" wheels (gearing is as of yet undecided), not be too heavy, not draw too much power, and preferably not too expensive. Also, would any of you know what kind of motor controller would best fit your choice of motor?

Get one from Walmart.
Return it when you're done.

Get yourself a starter motor from a scrap yard. Fucker will get up to 25mph easy.
